Privacy policy

The NAPTIFY project (“we” or “us”) handles personal information entrusted to us through this website (naptify.net) as described below.

1. Scope

This policy applies to information we collect through this website and its support desk.

naptify-server is software that runs on the operator’s PC. Information exchanged on each server (user names, shared file lists, chat, and so on) is managed by that server’s operator and is not sent to us. Section 7 describes the connections naptify-server makes to outside services.

2. Information we collect

Support page (bug reports and feature requests): when you submit a request, we collect the following:

  • What you enter: name (a handle name is fine), email address, subject, description, and type
  • Information recorded automatically: IP address, browser type, and operating system (also recorded when you send a reply)
  • One-time passwords for checking your tickets (sent by email and deleted after they expire)

Email inquiries: we keep your email address and the content of your email.

Access logs: each time a page is viewed, this website’s server records the IP address, date and time, the URL of the page, the referring URL, browser information (User-Agent), and the response status and size.

The access logs are also used by the access statistics of the server’s control panel (Plesk) to count page views and similar figures. This is done on this website’s server and nothing is sent outside.

Analytics: we collect information about how this website is used with Google Analytics. See section 5 for details.

3. How we use information

  1. To answer and contact you about your inquiries
  2. To investigate bugs and improve naptify-server and this website
  3. To understand how this website is used
  4. To prevent spam and unauthorized access, and to keep this website running safely

4. Cookies

This website uses the following cookies:

  • pll_language: remembers the display language (Japanese or English). Kept for one year.
  • wpsc_guest_login_auth: keeps you logged in to the support page after you use a one-time password. It contains your email address and an authentication string, and is kept until the login expires.
  • _ga and cookies starting with _ga_: used by Google Analytics to distinguish visitors and to keep the state of each visit (session). Kept for two years.
  • Cookies starting with wordpress_: used for the site administrator’s login. They are not set for visitors.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. If you do, the language setting and the support page login may not work.

5. Outside services

The support page uses reCAPTCHA v3 from Google LLC to prevent automated spam. When you open the support page, information about your device and browser is sent to Google. Google handles this information under its Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

To understand how this website is used and to improve it, this website uses Google Analytics (Google Analytics 4), an analytics service from Google LLC. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as the pages viewed, the date and time, the referring page, and the type of device and browser, and sends it to Google. We never send your name, email address, or other information that identifies you to Google Analytics. Google handles the collected information under its Privacy Policy. For how Google uses this data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

If you do not want Google Analytics to collect this information, please install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on provided by Google, or disable cookies in your browser settings.

The fonts on this website are served from this website’s own server; no outside font service is contacted. This website does not show advertising.

6. Disclosure to third parties

We do not disclose personal information to third parties without your consent, except as required by law.

This website runs on a rented server.

7. Connections made by naptify-server

naptify-server makes the following connections. None of them sends user names, shared file lists, or similar information.

  • To obtain its external IP address (at startup and every six hours) and to check connectivity from outside (only when you run the check in the admin page), it connects to D-DNS.JP, a service run by the same operator as the NAPTIFY project. D-DNS.JP receives the connecting IP address and the naptify-server version, and uses them to count how many copies of naptify-server are running.
  • If you link naptify-server with D-DNS.JP in the admin page, it connects to D-DNS.JP to create an account, request a subdomain, and update the IP address automatically. It sends your email address, password, host name, this server’s external IP address, and the naptify-server version. When you create a new account, it also sends a value that tells PCs apart. The value is derived from the PC’s identifier in a form that cannot be turned back into the original, and D-DNS.JP uses it to limit the number of sign-up requests. While linked, naptify-server checks its external IP address every few minutes and notifies D-DNS.JP when it changes and once a day. You can unlink at any time in the admin page.
  • To check whether a new version has been released, it periodically contacts the NAPTIFY distribution site. It sends only the product name, version, operating system, and CPU type, and nothing that identifies you (the connecting IP address is recorded in the distribution site’s access log, as with any connection). When a new version is available, it lets you know in the system tray and the admin page. It never downloads or installs updates by itself. You can turn this check off in the admin page settings (Update check).

8. Retention

Access logs are kept for a certain period and then deleted, oldest first.

9. Security

Communication with this website is encrypted with HTTPS. Information entrusted to us can be viewed only by the administrator.

10. Access, correction, and deletion

If you would like us to disclose, correct, delete, or stop using your information, please contact us at the address below. We will respond after confirming your identity.

11. Changes to this policy

We may change this policy when necessary. The revised policy takes effect when it is posted on this website.
